Toothpaste without the tube: A Millennial entrepreneur finds her path to keep plastic out of the environment

Younger entrepreneurs are rethinking century-old standards of consumption

Millennials are some of the most environmentally conscious consumers around – with their concern for the environment even crossing the political divides that mark older generations on the issue. Majorities of Gen Zers (56%) and Millennials (57%) favor phasing out gasoline cars by 2035, in contrast to the majorities of Gen X and Baby Boomers who oppose the idea. Close to half of Millennials and GenZers also want to phase out gas, coal and natural gas.

Faced with a rising climate crisis, more millennial entrepreneurs are taking matters into their own hands, with companies that disrupt old systems. In this interview, Times of E founder Elizabeth MacBride talks to Lindsay McCormick, the founder of Bite.

The company says it’s kept 2.9 million toothpaste tubes and more than 600,000 mouthwash bottles out of landfills. Recycling glass and shipping it to create a scaleable company can be a challenge, too, but Bite says it is carbon neutral by relying on postal routes rather than faster shipping methods, like Amazon Prime.
